Swagtron T580 Hoverboard Product Review
The standout feature of the T580 board is its self-balancing function that utilizes smart gyroscopic sensors. This determines where you are driving the board to or if you are simply idling on the board. With the help of the gyroscopic sensors, you can manipulate the board to move where you want it to with ease.
The self-balancing feature activates when you step onto the board with one foot. When you are standing on the board, simply relax and allow the board to move on its own. At this time, the board is sensing your core in order to initiate its self-balancing mechanism. Once it is set, you simply lean forward a bit to accelerate the board. Stand upright to stop the board and shift your weight from left to right or vice versa to turn. Stopping the board simply require stepping backward with one foot and follow it with the other.
You can set the T580 hoverboard to Learning and Standard mode through the dedicated app on your mobile phone. Learning mode puts a limit to the maximum speed that you can throttle out of the board. The idea is to help beginners get the feel of moving around on a hoverboard and prevent accident acceleration that can lead to injuries. Standard mode removes the limitation so you can take the T580 around the block at full speed.
Speaking of speed, the T580 can accelerate for up to 7.5 MPH. You can even throttle up a 30-degree inclining road with no problem. The performance is thanks to the board’s dual 200W motors.
Hoverboards have gotten a bad rap with many low-quality boards hitting the market. This is why the T580 utilizes various safety features to lower the risk of accidents. The most notable feature of which is the board’s use of the UL2272 safety certified battery.
Faulty batteries were a common problem among poorly made hoverboard. These batteries have no guard against overcharging, which often leads to a massive shot in voltage. The T580 solves this problem with its SentryShield and a Smart Battery Management feature. Both provide safety protocols to prevent an abnormal amount of voltage to build up within the battery. Even the casing is combustible proof to prevent a fire if in case of malfunctioning battery, which has a low chance of happening.
While we would score the T580 high for its battery safety features, this is also its flaw. On a full charge, the board can only take you up to eight miles before needing to charge. This is not the bad shortcoming since other boards can only achieve shorter miles than the T580. However, other boards can take you further where one can reach 12 miles on a full charge while another can achieve 11 miles.
Apart from the batteries, another safety feature is on the board itself. This includes the non-slip footpads on each side. This lets you get a better grip on the board while riding it. In addition, the T580 has incredibly durable ABS casing and a pair of 6.5” rubber wheels. This allows the hoverboard to resist the usual wearing and tearing than other boards. The Swagtron T580 also lived up to being a Swag board with the built-in Bluetooth speaker. Just use the Swagtron companion app to play music from your phone and stream the sound onto the speakers. While the concept is great and we have had it playing great Earth, Wind, and Fire tracks on the board, the connection to the phone sometimes fails while operating the board.
Other features of the app include a route tracker that gives keeps you updated on your location, at least when it works. Unfortunately, the tracker app was inaccurate upon our testing of it while riding the T580.
